Latifah, 22, unexpectedly became pregnant with triplets. Latifah talks about how she decided to keep the children and raise them as a single mother from the very beginning of her pregnancy.
But at just 22 weeks pregnant, Latifah’s ᴄᴇʀᴠɪx begins to ᴏᴘᴇɴ, the ɪɴɪᴛɪᴀʟ sᴛᴀɢᴇs of ᴘʀᴇ-ᴛᴇʀᴍ ʟᴀʙᴏʀ. Her babies are ᴛᴏᴏ sᴍᴀʟʟ and ᴜɴᴅᴇʀᴅᴇᴠᴇʟᴏᴘᴇᴅ to sᴜʀᴠɪᴠᴇ birth, so she must choose whether to let nature take its course or ɪɴᴛᴇʀᴠᴇɴᴇ to try and save the pregnancy.
Latifah decides to have a ʜɪɢʜ-ʀɪsᴋ ᴘʀᴏᴄᴇᴅᴜʀᴇ called a ᴄᴇʀᴠɪᴄᴀʟ ᴄᴇʀᴄʟᴀɢᴇ or ᴄᴇʀᴠɪᴄᴀʟ sᴛɪᴛᴄʜ performed, in which the ᴄᴇʀᴠɪx is sᴛɪᴛᴄʜᴇᴅ sʜᴜᴛ to try to ᴘʀᴇᴠᴇɴᴛ ʟᴀʙᴏʀ ᴀɴᴅ ᴘʀᴏʟᴏɴɢ the pregnancy.
The ᴘʀᴏᴄᴇᴅᴜʀᴇ was successful, and Latifah’s triplets were born healthy at 30 weeks.
We ᴄᴀᴜɢʜᴛ ᴜᴘ with Latifah recently, who said: “The last twelve months have been such a sᴛʀᴜɢɢʟᴇ when it comes to ꜰɪɢᴜʀɪɴɢ ᴏᴜᴛ a routine and finding time for myself as well as finding time to play with the girls, but as time goes by, it does get easier.
“Za’lahni was recently ᴅɪᴀɢɴᴏsᴇᴅ with ɪɴꜰᴀɴᴛɪʟᴇ sᴘᴀsᴍs, and it’s had an impact on her development, but it still doesn’t stop her from trying to do things. She will watch Ah’zari and Zeh’rai do things and try to do them as well, even though it’s ʜᴀʀᴅ for her, and I’m so proud of her for that.
“The triplets have just celebrated their first birthday, and I’m proud of all my girls for being such smart, happy babies, and I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for us.”
