When Ashley Ness came in for her routine appointment in February, she was delighted to find that she and her husband, Val, were expecting a child. But the surprises don’t stop there. The 35-year-old mother had an ultrasound two weeks later and discovered she was expecting not one, but four kids.
Ashley was even more dismayed to find that the kids weren’t quadruplets but identical twins because she already has an 8-year-old daughter.
Her unique situation even confused the ultrasound technician. “When she first started scanning, she was looking at the screen and writing, ‘A, B’, so I stopped and looked at her and said, ‘Wait, I’m having twins? “” Ashley told GMA
“And she said, ‘Oh, I don’t know… I’ll walk out in a minute. ”
When she returned, a doctor confirmed that Ashley was expecting four babies – two boys and two girls– and that she was experiencing a double-pregnancy, which is a ‘one in 70 million’ occurrence. An extremely rare conception means Ashley is expecting two identical twins, as her two eggs were fertilized at the same time, before they both split. This resulted in her being pregnant with two pairs of identical siblings.
After getting over the initial shock, the couple are now excited about the new arrivals – especially as Ashley has struggled with infertility for years.
The hairdresser added: “I’ve had a really hard time getting my daughter pregnant and I’ve had mis.carriages in the past. So I feel like I might be blessed with something really big. when conceived, it was right before my grandmother ᴅɪᴇᴅ, so it felt almost like a gift from her, like sending back the ʟᴏss that I had. That’s truly how I do feel.”
Ashley said she feels very honored that such a rare thing has happened to her and is delighted to see how much they all look alike. However, the 35-year-old added that she was a bit worried about the demands that four babies would bring. And, to accommodate her growing family, Ashley plans to buy a new truck and expand their home – before their expected arrival in August.
