My Giant Baby Weighed The Same As A BOWLING BALL When She Was Born – She Was The Biggest The Midwife Had Ever Seen

A MUM has given birth to a baby weighing the same as a BOWLING BALL. Mental health nurse Helen Sellers gave birth to her daughter Celia, who weighed a whopping 11lbs 5oz five weeks ago – and her midwife informed her it was one of the biggest babies she’d delivered in 16 years.

Celia’s brother Roman, three, weighed 9lb when he was born, and Helen and husband Carl, 37, were both under 9lbs as newborns.

“Carl is 6ft 7ins now, but he wasn’t a big baby, so we’re not sure why Celia was so big,” Helen said.

“While I was pregnant, my consultant said that the baby was going to be big, but not as big as Roman.

“I never expected her to be that weight.

“We played guess the weight with my family, and my cousin put 11lbs and I thought that was so cheeky, but he was right!”

During the pregnancy Helen had a big bump, and a few people asked her if she was having multiple babies.

Helen added: “My bump was big, and people frequently asked if I was having twins.”

‘There was one lady at work who asked me a few times if I was sure it wasn’t twins!

‘The doctors tested me for gestational diabetes but they were negative.’

And when it came to Celia’s birth, the midwives all had hilarious reactions to the baby’s size.

“I initially wanted to try natural delivery, but I’m glad I didn’t now because I’m not sure she would have come out,” Helen smiled.

“The midwives were laughing a bit and saying she was really big.

“She was the talk of the ward, and everyone wanted to see her since she was so large.

“Celia was the second largest baby my midwife had ever seen in her 16 years of practice.”

In fact, Celia had to go straight into 0-3 clothes when she was born, as none of the newborn clothes Helen had picked up for her fit her.

“I had bought a couple of baby grows that were up to one month, and I didn’t even bother getting them out the packet,” she laughed.

“I knew they wouldn’t fit her.

“I had bought some 0-3 month stuff, and she’s already in 3-6 month clothes now.”

Helen revealed that the midwives had hilarious reactions to Celia’s size.

She said: “I had to have a c section, and it took them ages to get her out. I initially wanted to try natural delivery, but I’m glad I didn’t now because I’m not sure she would have come out.

Guy Carr, who weighed 15lbs 8oz when he was born in 1992, holds the UK record for heaviest infant. He, too, was born via c-section, though George Joseph King, who was born in 2013 and weighed 15 pounds 7 ounces, is the heaviest baby to be born naturally.

Thankfully Celia arrived happy and healthy, and her birth ended up making her a star around the hospital.
