Mother Of Twin Boys Gives Birth To Rare Set Of Twin Girls

The mother of 10-year-old twins, Casey Saunders, 27, initially felt the doctors were kidding when they told her she was going to become pregnant with identical twins once more.
Having another set of identical twins is extremely unlikely; just one in 70,000 pregnancies result in this situation. She received just such thrilling but also somewhat terrifying news last year.

As if pregnancy wasn’t unusual enough, the girls developed within the same ᴘʟᴀᴄᴇɴᴛᴀ and shared the same ᴀᴍɴɪᴏᴛɪᴄ sᴀᴄ, which occurs in only 1% of twin pregnancies and can lead to a slew of ᴄᴏᴍᴘʟɪᴄᴀᴛɪᴏɴs.

Namely, these are monoamnionic monochorionic twins, better known as Momo twins. The chances of Momo twins for Casey were less than one in 10 million, which was also a big surprise for the parents.

After spending the last two months of her pregnancy in a hospital while doctors closely monitored the twins, Casey and her partner, Eugene, became the happy parents of girls, Maya and Laie.

Because they were born eight weeks ᴘʀᴇᴍᴀᴛᴜʀᴇ, the babies were kept in the hospital for another four weeks before being released home, but mom says fortunately there were no ᴄᴏᴍᴘʟɪᴄᴀᴛɪᴏɴs after the birth.
